About the event
On Thursday, June 19, 2025 at 7:00 pm, the Oriskany Museum will host a presentation by historian Bob Moore and museum curator Alexis Albright about Oriskany’s own Col. Gerrit Lansing, a veteran of Yorktown, who served under General Lafayette and then-Lt. Col. Alexander Hamilton. This program is free and open to the public.
Moore will detail Lansing, Lafayette and Hamilton’s experiences at Yorktown, combining well-known historical accounts with Lansing’s own Revolutionary War pension service record.
Albright will expand about the ongoing efforts to document Col. Lansing, his Revolutionary War service, and his early years in Oriskany, where he helped found the woolen mill. Lansing was not only the younger brother of two early New York statesmen, but was also often in the shadows of the Founding Fathers during the Revolution.
